Overtime Pay Calculator
Calculate regular pay, overtime pay and total pay from your hourly rate, hours worked and overtime multiplier.
How this calculator works
- Enter your regular hourly rate.
- Enter regular hours and overtime hours worked in the period.
- Confirm or adjust the overtime multiplier (1.5x is the default).
- The calculator adds regular pay and overtime pay for your total.
This calculator applies simple overtime math: hours at your regular rate plus hours at a multiplied rate. The default multiplier is 1.5× (“time and a half”), the most common overtime rate, but you can change it to match double-time or any other arrangement.
Example
At $20/hour with 40 regular hours and 8 overtime hours at 1.5x: regular pay = $20 × 40 = $800. Overtime pay = $20 × 1.5 × 8 = $240. Total = $1,040.
Limitations
This is a math tool, not a legal reference — overtime eligibility and required multipliers vary by country, state/province, industry and employment classification (exempt vs. non-exempt). Confirm your actual entitlement with your employer, an HR resource, or your local labor authority.
Frequently asked questions
How is overtime pay calculated?
Overtime pay = hourly rate × overtime multiplier × overtime hours. Add that to regular pay (hourly rate × regular hours) for the total.
What is time and a half?
It's a 1.5× multiplier on the regular hourly rate, the most common overtime rate in the US for eligible hourly workers.
Does this calculator know my country's overtime laws?
No — it performs the arithmetic you specify. Overtime rules differ widely by jurisdiction, so confirm your rate and threshold separately.
Can I use a different multiplier, like double-time?
Yes, change the multiplier field to 2 (or any value) to model double-time or a custom agreement.
