Example
A $120 subtotal with 8% tax ($9.60) and 18% tip ($21.60) totals $151.20. Split evenly four ways, that's $37.80 each. Split unevenly, each person's tax and tip is proportional to what they ordered.
Limitations
The uneven split assumes tax and tip should be shared proportionally to each person's subtotal share, which is the most common approach but not the only one groups use.

How does an uneven split work?
Enter each person's individual subtotal (what they ordered). The calculator adds up all the subtotals, calculates total tax and tip, then gives each person a proportional share of the tax and tip based on how much of the subtotal was theirs.
Is tip calculated on the subtotal or the total with tax?
This calculator computes tip on the pre-tax subtotal, which is the more common convention, though some people prefer tipping on the post-tax total.
Can I split a bill among just two people?
Yes — the number of people field accepts any number, including two.
What if someone didn't order anything but is still contributing?
Add them with a $0 subtotal in the uneven split — they'll be included in the person count but won't be assigned any tax or tip share.
