Tip Calculator

Calculate the tip amount, total bill, and how much each person owes.

Your calculations stay in your browser — nothing you type here is sent to any server.

How this calculator works

  1. Enter the bill amount.
  2. Choose a quick tip percentage (15/18/20/25%) or type a custom one.
  3. Enter the number of people splitting the bill.
  4. The calculator shows the tip amount, total bill, and amount per person.

A straightforward tip calculator: enter your bill, pick or type a tip percentage, and optionally split the total across a group. Use the quick buttons for common tip percentages or type any custom amount.

Example

A $64 bill with a 20% tip: tip = $64 × 0.20 = $12.80. Total = $76.80. Split three ways, that's $25.60 per person.

Limitations

This doesn't account for sales tax being included or excluded from the tip base — if your bill already includes tax, decide whether you want to tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount before entering it. For a version that separates tax and tip explicitly, use the Split Bill Calculator.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I tip?

Tipping norms vary by country, service type and personal preference — 15–20% is common at US restaurants for standard service. This calculator computes the amount for whatever percentage you choose.

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?

Both approaches are used in practice. Enter whichever bill amount you want to base the tip on — pre-tax or the full total.

How do I split a tip evenly?

Enter the number of people, and the calculator divides the total (bill + tip) evenly across that many people.

Can I enter a custom tip percentage?

Yes — the quick buttons are shortcuts; you can type any percentage into the tip field.
