Travel Budget Calculator
Estimate a full trip's total cost from daily spending categories plus lodging, split per person and per day.
How this calculator works
- Enter the number of days and travelers.
- Enter per-person daily estimates for transport, food, activities and miscellaneous spending.
- Enter a nightly lodging cost (shared across the group, not per person).
- The calculator totals everything and shows the cost per person and per day.
This calculator builds a trip budget from the ground up: per-person daily costs for transport, food and activities, plus a shared nightly lodging cost, across however many days and travelers you specify. It's a fast way to sanity-check a vacation budget before you book anything.
Example
A 5-day trip for 2 travelers with $20/day transport, $50/day food, $30/day activities, $15/day misc per person, and $120/night lodging: per-person daily costs = $115 × 2 people × 5 days = $1,150, plus lodging $120 × 5 nights = $600. Total = $1,750 — $875 per person, or $350 per day.
Limitations
This assumes flat daily rates for the whole trip and one lodging cost per night — real trips often have cheaper and pricier days. Treat this as a planning estimate, not a locked-in budget.
Frequently asked questions
How do I estimate a vacation budget?
Break your trip into per-person daily categories (transport, food, activities, misc) and a nightly lodging cost, then multiply by days and travelers — this calculator automates that.
Is lodging per person or per room?
This calculator treats lodging as one shared nightly cost (per room), not multiplied by the number of travelers — enter the actual price you expect to pay per night.
Can I use this for a solo trip?
Yes — set travelers to 1 and it works the same way, just without splitting anything.
How many nights should I enter for lodging?
This calculator uses your number of days as the number of nights for simplicity — adjust your daily rate if your actual night count differs.
